Welcome Thiolife by Miss Lizzy where our mission to help you find answers to your thyroid issues. As someone who lived with thyroid issues, Miss Lizzy knows the frustrations of struggling with weight, feeling extreme low energy, feeling cold, difficulty sleeping, and so many other problems only people with thyroid issues can understand.
The biggest mistake people can make is assuming people lose vitality because of age and there is nothing they can do about it. But that's simply not true for everyone. Whether a person is 30 years old or 80, thyroid health can play a big part in our youthfulness and vitality. Educating ourselves and advocating ourselves are two important steps to take charge of our health and happiness.
"Before I took charge of my thyroid health in my 30s, I assumed my low energy and sluggish metabolism was a result of my age. But that simply wasn't true! My body just needed the right help. At age 48 I feel happier, stronger, and more youthful than ever. My heart goes out to every person who comes to me with these same frustrations. I know how hard it can be. What worked for me may not be exactly what works for the next person. But I want to help people find answers so they can take charge of their health, and hopefully feel their best." - Miss Lizzy
After having a baby at age 30, Lizzy noticed her body changing in many ways. Lizzy loved being a mom and assumed these changes were a natural part of aging and pregnancy. The exhaustion was probably from chasing around her very active toddler and not sleeping much at night, so Lizzy accepted the extreme exhaustion and brain fog as normal.
Extreme Exhaustion and Brain Fog
Trying to wake up in the morning, Lizzy would feel painfully groggy and need several cups of coffee to get her going. By the time afternoons would come, she couldn't keep her eyes open and often wondered how she would be able to cook dinner, cleanup and get through until bed time. She dreaded simple activities like grocery shopping, or taking her son to the playground because her legs would get achy and tired. She had to meter her daily energy and not take on too much activity.
Frustrating Weight Gain
Even more discouraging, Lizzy noticed the weight she gain during pregnancy never went away like it did for so many of her mom friends. She would eat healthy but nothing seemed to help her shed the extra pounds. At the peak, she weighed 180 lbs and wore a size 12. When Lizzy tried to exercise, she would experience a physical where she couldn't get out of bed and her body would take many days to recover. One doctor told her to just "eat less and exercise more" which made her feel ashamed and sad. She did all she could but nothing worked.
Discovering a Nodule
Finally in 2004, Lizzy discovered a lump in her throat that was making it difficult to swallow. She was scared. The doctor said she had what was called a nodule, or a goiter, and recommended having having surgery to remove her thyroid in a procedure called a thyroidectomy. After visiting many doctors, all of whom told her that she was "fine" and had "normal TSH" Lizzy started educating herself about thyroid goiter only to discover there was a direct connection between goiter, hypothyroidism and iodine deficiency.
At the time, there was little information online about hypothyroidism until Lizzy stumbled upon a small website known as Stop the Thyroid Madness who was leading patient advocacy revolution. Through their education Lizzy began the journey to take charge of her health.
The Renaissance in Iodine
Through coincidence or serendipity, iodine came into Lizzy's life at exactly the same time she was learned about the goiter and hypothyroidism. Lizzy's dad is the founder of J.Crow company, which, up until that point, had been known as a spice company. In 2004, Lugol's iodine was gaining popularity in alternative communities like Curezone.
Both Lizzy and her dad were very interested in the benefits of iodine, and together teamed up to create the J.Crow's Lugol's iodine product line. After more than 10 years working with her dad and serving over a hundred thousand happy iodine customers through Amazon, Lizzy decided it was time to venture on her own. In 2019 Lizzy launched her exclusive new product line including Thiodine Lugol's iodine and Thiosel Selenium. Through extensive research and personal experience Lizzy knows thyroid issues.
