My Story

I spent 50 years in The Hypothyroid Swamp.

Here's how I got out. And why I built HypoHero to help you avoid the same pitfalls with thyroid medications, specialists, and lab testing.

THE SWAMP

For decades, doctors dismissed my symptoms

The fatigue, weight gain, and brain fog started in high school, but I thought I was just a "lazy teen" who liked to sleep.

In my 20s, the symptoms got worse. Diets and exercise didn't help. Sleeping eight hours didn't help. I felt stuck in a body I didn't recognize. But primary care doctors kept insisting the problem wasn't my thyroid. Their only suggestion was to "eat less, exercise more."

So I blamed myself, thinking I was destined to be overweight and exhausted. I assumed everyone felt this way. That belief cost me decades.

Then in my early 30s, after pregnancy, everything got worse. I'd gained almost 50 pounds, and the baby weight wouldn't come off. My friends rebounded easily after pregnancy; my body felt stuck.

Now the fatigue affected even the smallest activities. One flight of stairs in my own house left me winded. I had to rest after a shower. I was too tired to play with my son or take him to the playground. Every day felt like walking through mud. I went back to the doctors with every symptom written down. They checked my labs and again insisted my thyroid was fine.

The endocrinologist dismissed my symptoms and research. She said: 'Your thyroid is fine. You just want a quick-fix weight loss pill. And I am not going to give it to you.' I felt ashamed and devastated.

At 33, I found a nodule on my thyroid. The doctors recommended removing it entirely — and still insisted my thyroid was fine. That was the turning point. If the specialists couldn't answer the most basic question — how did I develop a thyroid nodule? — maybe they were missing something deeper.

So I decided to find the answer myself. It would take fifteen more years, and every thyroid medication, specialist, and lab test, to discover what none of them could see.

THE DISCOVERY

The real problem wasn't hypothyroidism. It was a Thyroid Deficit.

At first, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and put on medication. But that isn't where the story ends. For the next fifteen years, I tried every form of thyroid medication available — levothyroxine, NDTs, custom compounded, T3-only. Raising the dose, lowering the dose, changing medications, getting new labs. But not getting better.

I never felt stable. Some symptoms improved, then worsened. New ones developed — hair loss, heart palpitations, cortisol belly, a puffy cortisol face. I kept thinking: "if I just find the right medication, the right dose, the right lab range, then I'll feel better."

It didn't happen. I was relying on a medical system that was never designed to fix my problem. So I started asking a different question. Not "what's the right medication?" — but "what if medication and lab testing were never going to be the answer?"

I stopped relying on lab tests that didn't match my symptoms and started tracking how I actually felt. The thyroid controls metabolism, and body temperature is the clearest signal of it: a low temperature means a slow metabolism. So I tracked mine every day, along with every symptom.

The tracking showed me what the labs never had: the medication was pushing my body too hard, and my body showed every sign of it. Medication wasn't healing my thyroid. It couldn't. So I asked the real question: "what does my thyroid actually need to be healthy?" That led me to the foundational minerals my body had been missing all along.

The real problem was never hypothyroidism. It was a Thyroid Deficit in my cells. Lab tests don't detect it. Thyroid medication doesn't fix it. Doctors don't diagnose it. That's the hidden reason I suffered for decades.

My cells were missing the vital minerals they need to function. Just as a car needs good fuel to run, the thyroid needs minerals. But minerals aren't something you can just load up on. Take too much of the wrong thing and you make the problem worse. And a one-time mineral test can't tell you what your body actually needs — because what matters isn't a single snapshot, it's how your body responds over time as you add each one.

That's the answer I'd been missing. The same tracking that revealed my Thyroid Deficit was the tool that could fix it — showing me how my metabolism responded to each supplement, and whether my thyroid medication had become too strong.

That's why I created HypoHero — it's my complete system to finally fix my Thyroid Deficit.

THE CLIMB

The Starter Bundle is how I fixed my Thyroid Deficit

The Coaching App and thermometer. The supplements in the right sequence. Temperature and symptom tracking, the Hero AI, and a community to share your wins. It's the complete roadmap I created for myself and the system I wish I had twenty years ago.

You can't fix a Thyroid Deficit with a bottle alone. The minerals are the fuel; the thermometer and app show you what's working and what to do next. That's why the Starter Bundle is a system, not a stack — it's the complete path forward.
